The Challenge

Wigan Fire and Ambulance Station required a 36.25kWp solar PV system comprising 125 panels on a low-inclination standing seam roof. A one-metre-high parapet wall created a shading constraint, requiring a carefully designed layout to make the most of the available sunlight.

Square 4 Solar’s in-house design team needed to position the panels around the shadows cast by the parapet while selecting a mounting system suited to the roof. Installation also needed to be coordinated with the roofing contractor and on-site engineers to minimise disruption to other works.

The Solution

Square 4 Solar delivered the 36.25kWp system in stages, working closely with the roofing contractor and on-site engineers to minimise disruption to other services and activities on site.

The completed installation comprises 125 solar panels, with the array positioned to avoid parapet shading. Careful coordination and savings achieved during installation enabled the project to be completed on time and under budget.

The Results

Square 4 Solar completed the 36.25kWp installation on time and under budget. The 125-panel system was positioned to avoid shading from the parapet wall and aligned with the south-east-facing roof to make the most of the available sunlight.

Installation was delivered in stages, working closely with the roofing contractor and on-site engineers to minimise disruption to other services on site. Careful project coordination and savings achieved during installation helped keep the programme and budget on track.
